How to bleach hair from dark to blonde

First of all, my hair started off at a color called Plum Black, which is a dye from Age Beautiful. So, this is kind of long, but its how I safely bleached my hair! without a lot of damage

These steps are for  anyone who wants to bleach their hair, but I added extra steps for people with dark hair!

Disclaimer: Unfortunately, some people's hair do get damaged from bleaching everyone's hair is different, but you can minimize the damage

What I used: I bought the tub of L'oreal Quick Blue powder bleach, Salon care 30 volume developer, Wella Color Charm T27 Medium Beige Blonde, a mixing bowl, and an application brush all from Sallys.

1. Even if your going from black to blonde, I do not recommend using 40 vol. developer, because it is just so damaging.  30 volume might take 2 or 3 times of bleaching your hair to lift it from black all the way to blonde, but its a lot less damaging than 40 volume.

2. Always put on your gloves first.  If your using the Quick blue powder bleach, you're going to need to mix the bleach and developer.  I used a scoopful of the powder bleach, which comes in the tub of bleach, and I used 1/4 of a cup of developer.
You're probably going to need more than this, so you can either make more after you used all of it or you can mix 2 scoopfuls of the powder bleach and 1/2 of cup of developer.

3.  Now, it's really important to have your gloves on because the bleach can burn your hands.  Part your hair at the nape, and use the application brush to thoroughly saturate each strand with bleach.
Don 't go up to the roots yet.
Apply the bleach about a 1/4 of an inch away from the root for now, because the roots bleach way faster than the rest of your hair, because there is more heat at your roots because it's the closest to your scalp.
I went back and did my roots after, so that my hair would turn out the same color

4. After you applied the bleach to all of your hair, put on a shower cap, and blow warm air on the shower cap with a blow dryer.  Heat makes makes the hair lighten faster.

5. Check every 20 - 30 minutes to to see if its light enough and to make sure you're not leaving the bleach on your hair too long.

For dark hair: lighten your hair to a medium - light brown.
You don't want to go all the way to blonde in one try because that could really damage your hair, or even make it fall out

6.  Once your hair is as light as you want it, rinse the bleach out of your hair.  You can condition it if you want, or you can go right into bleaching your roots.

For dark hair: Your hair will probably be brassy, and have lots of orange or yellow tones because there are orange tones under dark or black hair.  This is okay, and there is a way to fix it, in step 12, but you're going to have to wait a little while before you fix the brassiness, because if you did this all in one day you could fry your hair

7. Mix more bleach, but this time you won't need as much this time because you're only doing your roots.  Start at the bottom again, and use the application brush  to apply the bleach to your roots. Put a mirror behind you while standing in front of a mirror to make sure you can see the back of your hair because you don't want go over the part that is already bleached.

8. Put on a shower cap, and this time you wont need the blow dryer, because your roots are most likely going to bleach most faster, so you're going to need to check a lot more.

9. Once your roots are the same color as the rest of your hair, rinse the bleach out of your hair.  Also, shampoo your hair after the bleach is rinsed out just to make sure the bleach is
completely out.
After shampooing, get a really good moisturizing conditioner, or masque and leave that on your hair for at least 45 minutes to and hour, because your hair is going to be dry if you don't condition it.
I used Organix full & thick Biotin & Collagen conditioner, and left it in my hair for an hour, and then I put Argan oil in my hair

10. For dark hair: After you've conditioned your hair for an hour wait at least 2-3 days to give your hair a break before bleaching it again.

11. For dark hair: Once you've waited 2-3 days, bleach your medium brown/ brassy hair to a light yellow, and do the roots last like before.
It could take more than once to bleach your hair from the brown color to the yellow, but be patient.  If your hair doesn't lift from the brown to the light yellow in one try, then condition your hair for at least 45 minutes again, and then bleach again, until its light yellow.

12.  For dark hair: Since you're hair is yellow now, you're going to need a toner, to counteract the yellow or orange tones in your hair. choose a toner in the shade of blonde that you like.  I used Wella Color Charm T27 Medium Beige Blonde
